"They pitched their tents round about"

Some of you might not familiar with the Book of Mormon and the story of King Benjamin. So I will give you the quick cliffs notes version, for the full scriptural account click here. So King Benjamin was a not only a very good King, he was a righteous Prophet. When he was getting very old he asked that the people come to the temple to listen to the words of God. There were so many people that came to listen to the Prophet that there was not enough room for them all in the temple, so King Benjamin had a tower erected outside so that all that gathered could hear him. The people gathered around the temple and pitched their tents to listen to the Prophet King Benjamin.  Here is a bit of what he said -

"My brethren, all ye that have assembled yourselves together, you that can hear my words which I shall speak unto you this day; for I have not commanded you to come up hither to trifle with the words which I shall speak, but that you should hearken unto me, and open your ears that ye may hear, and your hearts that ye may understand, and your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view."
This is the picture we used in our lesson of King Benjamin speaking and all the people in their tents.

In my faith, every six months we "pitch our tents" to listen to the word of God through His Prophet today, so that our hearts and our minds may be open to the will of our Heavenly Father. This Easter weekend that's exactly what we got to do.

Mr. Incredible had a brilliant idea on family night to give a lesson about King Benjamin and we could introduce the idea of "pitching our tents" to listen to the Prophet. As you can imagine it is always a trial to get small children excited about sitting and listening for any period of time, so I thought it was truly brilliant!

So here are my munchkins pitching their tent to listen to our Prophet. Give 'em a little popcorn, their blankets and some quiet toys and it was awesome. They did really great and I was very proud of Sweet Pea for remembering our lesson about King Benjamin. We had an awesome Easter, stay tuned for more on that :o)
